The festival of lights is celebrated over several days, and regional variations have led to some confusion regarding bank holidays. While most states will celebrate Diwali on Monday, October 20th, some regions will observe the festival a day later, on Tuesday, October 21st. Bank Holiday on 20 October 2025

Banks will remain closed in the following states and union territories on Monday, October 20, on account of Diwali, Narak Chaturdashi and Kali Puja: Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh (UT), Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi (NCT), Goa, Chhattisgarh , Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Bank Holiday on 21 October 2025:

Banks will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21st on account of Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Pujan), Deepawali and Govardhan Puja in these states: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Chhattisgarh , Jammu, and Srinagar.

Banks will also remain closed on October 22, 2025:

Apart from this, banks will also remain closed on October 22 in some states due to Diwali, Vikram Samvat New Year Day, Govardhan Puja, Balipratipada and Lakshmi Puja in these states:

Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur.

October 23 (Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Jayanti): Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Shimla. Banks will remain open in all other cities.

October 27: Banks will remain closed in Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi due to Chhath Puja.

October 28: Banks will remain closed in Patna and Ranchi due to Chhath Puja.

October 31: There will be a holiday in Ahmedabad due to Sardar Patel Jayanti.
