Passport Renewal Tips: A passport is a government document that proves a person’s identity and citizenship. It is essential for traveling abroad, studying, or conducting business overseas. International travel is not possible without a passport.
An Indian passport is valid for 10 years from the date of issue. After 10 years, it is necessary to renew the passport. A passport can be renewed up to one year before its expiry date or up to three years after it expires. However, to avoid any problems, it is best to start the renewal process at least 9 months before the passport expires. While it is possible to renew a passport six months in advance, there is a possibility of delays, which could affect your international travel plans.

Passport renewal rules vary depending on age. Passports for minors are valid for five years or until they turn 18, whichever comes first. Children aged 15 to 18 also have the option of obtaining a passport with a 10-year validity. You can renew your passport by visiting the passport office or online from home.
