The Indian government will soon introduce unprecedented new Aadhaar-related regulations, requiring hotels, event organizers, and other such organizations to stop collecting and storing physical photocopies of Aadhaar cards completely. The government believes that paper-based Aadhaar verification is not only illegal but also poses a significant threat to privacy.
The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has approved a new framework for this important change. Organizations now need to first register with the UIDAI for offline Aadhaar verification, after which they can use QR code or app-based verification.
New Secure Verification Process for Hotels and Organizers

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed that the new regulations have been approved and will be notified soon. Under the new Aadhaar regulations, hotels, event venues, organizers, and all such organizations will gain access to a secure API (application programming interface) after registering with the UIDAI. This will allow them to conduct Aadhaar verification digitally, eliminating the need to store any physical copies. UIDAI’s primary objective is clear: to eliminate paper copies and reduce the risk of Aadhaar data leaks.

New Aadhaar App for Offline Verification
UIDAI is also testing a new app that will facilitate app-to-app verification. This process will eliminate the need for a live connection to the central Aadhaar server. This new app will be available at locations such as airports, retail stores (where age verification is required), and event venues. It will also allow users to update their address proof and add family members who do not have mobile phones. This technological innovation will make the verification process super-fast.
Permanent Solution to Server Downtime Problem
Currently, Aadhaar verification is frequently interrupted due to server downtime. The new system will address this complex issue. QR codes and app-based verification will ensure that the process runs smoothly even during technical issues. This will make services more reliable by leveraging the power of offline verification.

Emphasis on Privacy and Data Security
According to UIDAI, the new process will significantly strengthen privacy. Eliminating photocopies will eliminate data storage risks and significantly reduce the potential for Aadhaar misuse. The new app is also being developed in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act), which is set to be fully implemented within the next 18 months. This change will completely transform the digital security landscape in the country.
