8th Pay Commission: While the Central Government has already hiked the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees, state governments have now also begun delivering good news to their respective workforces. The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance for its employees.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has raised the DA for its employees by 2 per cent. This move is expected to result in a substantial salary hike, serving as welcome news for the workforce. This is being hailed as a major gift for state employees during the month of May—a truly positive development. The revised Dearness Allowance rates will be applicable retroactively from January 1.
What is the New DA Rate?
According to a report by PTI, the Arunachal Pradesh government made a major announcement on May 6, increasing the employees’ DA by 2 per cent. With this hike, the rates for DA and Dearness Relief (DR) in the state have now reached 6 per cent of the basic pay and pension, respectively. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, this new revision will be deemed effective from January 1, 2026.
This clearly implies that the benefits for the preceding four months will also be disbursed. This move will benefit 69,000 state employees as well as 40,000 pensioners. According to a specific report, 69,248 regular employees are set to gain from this initiative. This figure includes All India Service officers serving under the Arunachal government, as well as Central Government employees currently on deputation with the state government.
How Many Pensioners Will Receive DR Benefits?
According to government reports, approximately 40,477 pensioners in the state will be eligible to receive the benefits of Dearness Relief (DR). On this occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended his congratulations to all the employees. Furthermore, he expressed hope that, in return for this financial assistance, the employees would be motivated to work even more diligently toward the welfare of the people of the state.
Understanding the Financial Burden on the Government
This increase in allowances will have a direct impact on the Arunachal Pradesh state exchequer. It is estimated to impose an additional annual financial burden of approximately ₹100.54 crore. A key highlight is that the arrears accrued from January to April 2026 are to be disbursed to employees and pensioners in cash. The government will need to incur an additional expenditure of approximately ₹33.51 crore to settle these DA arrears. From May 2026 onwards, the enhanced amount will be directly incorporated into the monthly salary and pension payments.
