New Delhi: The Central Government is set to open its coffers for central government employees and pensioners—a move that promises to be a significant boon. Central employees are eagerly awaiting an increase in their Dearness Allowance (DA) for the first half of 2026; however, the government has not yet officially approved this hike.
Typically, the DA for the first half of the year is revised around the festival of Holi, but this did not happen this time around. With more than half of April already gone, the government has yet to implement the DA hike, leading to a sense of uncertainty among employees. Employee unions are also expressing considerable displeasure and are demanding the immediate release of both the DA hike and the associated arrears.

How Much Could the Central Employees’ DA Increase?
Central government employees are eagerly awaiting the DA hike. This time, the DA is expected to see an increase of up to 3 per cent. If this material is correct, the DA rate will rise to 61 per cent. Currently, central government employees are receiving a DA benefit of 58 per cent.
Furthermore, the Dearness Allowance is determined based on the 12-month average data derived from the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) report. As soon as the DA is hiked, employees’ salaries are also set to witness a significant jump. However, the government has not yet officially stated the exact magnitude of the DA increase. Nevertheless, the DA hike is expected to be announced by the last week of April.
How Much Will Salaries Rise with a 3% Hike?
If the Dearness Allowance for central government employees is increased by a percentage, their salaries will indeed see a substantial rise. For an employee with a monthly salary of ₹25,000, a monthly increase of up to ₹750 can be expected. If a central government employee has a basic salary of ₹50,000, a 3 per cent DA hike would translate to a monthly increase of ₹1,500. Consequently, their annual income would also see a significant boost.
