Da Hike

DA Hike: Good news for state govt employees. Central government employees are currently waiting for their DA (Dearness Allowance) for the January to June half-yearly period. Typically, this allowance is announced during the Holi festival, but it has not been revealed yet this time. While they wait, some state employees have already seen an increase in their dearness allowance. Let’s dive into the specifics.

What are the specifics?

The Madhya Pradesh government has declared a rise in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees who are on the 6th Pay Commission scale. The DA has been raised from 252 percent to 257 percent, which is a 5 percent increase. This adjustment will be effective retroactively from July 1, 2025. However, employees will start receiving this enhanced allowance in their salaries from April 1, 2026. The arrears for the period from July 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, will be disbursed in six equal monthly installments between May and October 2026. This staggered payment plan is designed to ease the financial load on the state treasury while ensuring that employees receive their full arrears eventually.

The government has made it clear that if any employee retires or passes away during this timeframe, the entire outstanding amount will be paid in a single lump sum to him or his designated family members, providing immediate support to the affected families.

Any portion of 50 paise or more in the DA amount will be rounded up to the nearest whole rupee, while any amount below 50 paise will be disregarded. This decision is expected to primarily benefit around 100,000 government employees and officers who are still under the 6th Pay Commission framework.

DA also increased under the 7th Pay Commission

Previously, 3 percent DA was also increased for employees covered under the 7th Pay Commission, bringing their DA to 58 percent. This revision has been described as a step toward combating inflation and improving the financial situation of employees working on the old pay scales.
