But dont worry, Becausa Regardless of the price of an LPG cylinder in your city, beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana are getting it for Rs 300 less. You shouldn’t be disappointed, though, as you’re getting a cylinder that’s significantly cheaper than the supply cost of a domestic LPG cylinder.
Taking the example of Delhi, a Ujjwala Yojana beneficiary can get a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder for just Rs 613, while a non-subsidized consumer pays Rs 913. This is significantly less than the Rs 1,200 supply cost. More than 105.5 million women in the country are getting cylinders that are Rs 300 cheaper than the market rate and Rs 587 cheaper than the supply cost. According to government data, there are approximately 330 million domestic LPG customers in the country. In 2014, this number was approximately 145.2 million.
Who is covering the losses?
Oil marketing companies are facing substantial losses due to the gap between the supply cost and the market price of LPG cylinders, along with the Ujjwala subsidy. Last year, these companies experienced losses amounting to Rs 41,338 crore, which may rise to around Rs 60,000 crore this year. To help mitigate these losses, the government has set aside about Rs 30,000 crore in compensation for this year.

To apply for a Ujjwala Yojana connection, head to your nearest distributor. To qualify for a gas connection, a woman aged 18 or older must be eligible and her family should not already possess an LPG Connection. Eligible women can apply by providing their Aadhaar card, ration card, bank account information, and the necessary declaration. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, qualified women receive a gas connection without needing to pay a security deposit. They also get their first refilled cylinder and a gas stove at no cost.
Documents needed for Ujjwala Yojana
KYC application form. A photocopy of the applicant’s Aadhaar card for identity verification. Proof of address (if the current address differs from that on the Aadhaar card). A self-declaration form for migrant applicants. A ration card from the state where the application is submitted or any other state government document confirming family member details.
Photocopies of the Aadhaar cards of the applicant and adult family members (whose names appear on the ration card/family document). A photocopy of the bank passbook or a cancelled cheque.
What does the government provide under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?
The government provides financial assistance of Rs 2,050 for a 14.2-kilogram cylinder connection and Rs 1,300 for a 5-kilogram cylinder connection. This assistance covers expenses such as, The cylinder security deposit is Rs 1,700 for a 14.2-kg cylinder and Rs 950 for a 5-kg cylinder. Rs 150 for a pressure regulator, Rs 100 for an LPG pipe, and Rs 25 for a domestic gas consumer card. The inspection, installation, and demonstration fee is Rs 75. Additionally, all Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries receive a free first LPG refill and gas stove (hot plate) from oil marketing companies.
