New Delhi: The government is actively working on recovering outstanding electricity bills and is offering concessions to facilitate this. The second phase of the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, launched by the electricity department, has begun. The OTS scheme has played a significant role in the recovery of electricity bills.
In the first phase, the team from Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (MVVNL) in 19 districts successfully recovered ₹970 crore in outstanding electricity bills. This has significantly increased government revenue. In the first phase, defaulters were given a discount of up to 25 per cent on the outstanding amount.

Now, in the second phase, this discount has been reduced by 5 per cent. This means that defaulters will receive a discount of up to 2 per cent on the total electricity bill if they pay the full amount. Previously, the OTS scheme only waived the interest amount.
Registration Required to Avail the Scheme
To benefit from the scheme, certain procedures need to be followed. Riya Kejriwal, Managing Director of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, informed that applicants will need to register by paying a fee of ₹2,000 to avail the benefits of the scheme. This registration fee will be deducted from the total bill amount.

She further stated that this is a great opportunity for defaulters to clear their bills and become stress-free. Kejriwal instructed the engineers to contact the defaulters and encourage them to register, highlighting the benefits of the scheme. A percentage discount is being offered on the total bill amount. Riya Kejriwal also informed that the scheme is available for domestic customers with a load of up to two kilowatts and commercial customers with a load of up to one kilowatt. The benefits of the OTS scheme will only be available after registration. Failure to register will result in being ineligible for the scheme.

The second phase of the OTS scheme will begin on January 31st. This phase will also be crucial for defaulters. Registration for the third phase will be open until February 28th, offering a percentage discount on the total bill.
