Bank Holiday March 4: The Holi festival will be celebrated nationwide tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4. In many states, Holi is also being observed on March 3. Additionally, the stock market is closed today, Tuesday, in observance of Holi, and trading will resume tomorrow, March 4. This has led to confusion for many regarding whether banks will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, or if branches will be closed. According to the RBI’s list, banks will be closed on different days in various regions of the country for Holi in March.

What does the RBI bank holiday list indicate?

As per the RBI’s state holiday schedule, March 3 and 4 will be designated as bank holidays in different states. This year, there is some uncertainty about the Holi date, as some states will celebrate the festival on March 3, while others will do so on March 4. Consequently, banks will be closed on both days in various states.

On Tuesday, March 3, banks will be closed in 16 cities and regions, including Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

On Wednesday, March 4, 18 locations will observe a bank holiday. These include Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Shimla.

This year, Holika Dahan will occur on March 3, with the auspicious time set from 6:22 pm to 8:50 pm. The celebration of Colors will take place the following day, March 4. The date of Holi is determined annually according to the Hindu calendar, so it may vary slightly from one location to another.

The second day of Holi is celebrated with different names in different states. In North India, it is called Dhuleti or Dhulandi, where people celebrate by applying colors and gulal to each other. In Manipur, it is called the second day of Yaosang, a major festival there. On this day, children and youth play with colors, cultural programs are held, and people socialize. Overall, the second day of Holi is a day of colors, fun, and brotherhood.

Banks are usually closed on national and local holidays, as well as on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month and all Sundays. However, digital banking services will remain operational despite bank branch closures. Customers can transfer money through net banking, mobile banking, and UPI. Cash can be withdrawn from ATMs.
