This biggest hassle for millions of Aadhaar holders is now over. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has activated the exciting online mobile number update feature on the new Aadhaar app. This is a historic decision, as users can now change their registered mobile number directly through the app without visiting a center. Learn how this revolutionary update works and what other features are coming soon.
Mobile Number Update
This is the first time UIDAI has allowed this crucial update to be done digitally. Until now, physical presence at an Aadhaar enrollment center was mandatory to change the mobile number.

With the latest update, ‘Mobile Number Update’ is now an active option under the Updates section in the Aadhaar app. This feature is extremely convenient, as the mobile number is essential for OTP-based Aadhaar authentication for almost all online services.

Other Demographic Details Still Inactive
In addition to the mobile number, the app also shows three other sections under Demographic Update: Name Update, Email ID Update, and Address Update.
However, when checked, all of these features currently display the message: “This feature is coming soon, it is in the development phase!” This means that these options are visible, but the service hasn’t gone live yet. UIDAI is expected to activate them gradually.
Date of Birth Update
An interesting thing is that the option to update the Date of Birth (DoB)—which was expected in the app—is not visible. Unlike other updates that display the “coming soon” message, the DoB update option hasn’t been included in the app. It remains to be seen whether UIDAI will enable this feature later.
Biometric Updates Will Remain Offline
The Aadhaar app mustn’t provide features such as biometric updates: fingerprint, iris scan, and photograph.
These biometric changes require physical verification. Therefore, users will still need to visit an authorized Aadhaar enrollment center for these biometric changes.
Features of the New Aadhaar App

The new Aadhaar app is designed to make identity verification easy, secure, and completely privacy-protected. It reduces the need to share physical copies of Aadhaar and allows users to securely verify their identity without relying on the internet.
