8th Pay Commission– Government Issues Fresh Notice, Employees and Pensioners Should Know

8th Pay Commission: Big news fpr central government employees. Following the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission, the central government has now issued an official notice, sparking further activity. The government has sought suggestions and proposals from employee unions, pensioner organizations, and experts across the country regarding the new salary structure. If employees’ demands are met, basic salaries could see the biggest increase ever.

Submit your suggestions by April 30, 2026

According to a public notice issued by the government, the 8th Pay Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025. The Commission has now initiated the feedback process. All proposals will be accepted online only on the MyGov portal or the Commission’s official website. Suggestions sent via post, email, or PDF will not be considered. The deadline for submitting suggestions is April 30, 2026.

Bumper jump of up to 66% in basic salary?

Employee organizations have strongly demanded a substantial salary increase from the government, in response to rising inflation. If the Commission accepts the unions’ recommendations, basic salaries could increase by up to 66%. Currently, the minimum basic salary is Rs 18,000, and there are discussions to raise it to between Rs 26,000 and Rs 30,000.

Will the 70-year-old family formula change?

Currently, the old formula from 1956 is used to determine the minimum salary for government employees. This is called the three-member family model. It assumes a family of only three members (husband, wife, and one child). Employee unions argue that, given the increasing responsibilities of parents and children, the family unit should be expanded from three to five members. This should be the basis for the new salary calculation.

Allowances and pensions will also be reviewed

The 8th Pay Commission’s objective is not only to increase salaries but also to review house rent allowance (HRA), travel allowance (TA), and benefits for pensioners. After studying the suggestions received by April 30, the commission will submit its final report to the government.
