Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI), the country’s second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has a stronghold in the Indian market with a wide range of scooters and bikes. Nowadays, the demand for premium products is increasing rapidly, and keeping this in mind, OEMs are focusing on premium models.

Honda is also paying special attention to premium two-wheelers, especially its Big Wing range of bikes. Now, the company is preparing to add a new scooter to its range of premium two-wheelers. Honda has filed a patent for the PCX 160 scooter in India, which will compete with scooters like the Yamaha Aerox, Aprilia SXR 160, and the recently launched Hero Zoom 160.

When will it be launched

However, the company has not made any official statement about the launch of this new scooter, and just a patent application does not guarantee that the product will be launched in the market. But, this move shows that Honda is very keen on the option of bringing the PCX 160 to India. Like its potential rivals, the PCX 160 features a maxi-style design, with a large front apron and a large central transmission tunnel instead of the flat footboard of a conventional scooter.

Design and Look

The front apron features a large twin-LED headlamp cluster and V-shaped LED DRL, giving the scooter a stunning front look. The headlamp cluster also features a long and adjustable windscreen. It features a single-piece seat with a step-up pillion section. Some more visual highlights include an upswept exhaust muffler, single-piece grab rail, and alloy wheels.

Features

The PCX 160 is expected to come with features like LED lighting, large under seat storage, keyless ignition and a fully digital LCD instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity. The patent image also reveals that adjustable clutch and brake levers have also been included. Talking about the hardware, the underbone chassis of the PCX 160 is suspended on front telescopic forks and twin rear shock absorbers.

Powerful engine and powerful performance

The Maxi Scooter can have 14-inch front and 13-inch rear alloy wheels. Disc brakes will be seen on both the tires for braking. It will be equipped with dual-channel ABS. The PCX160 is powered by a 157cc single-cylinder engine that generates 15.8 bhp of power at 8,500 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
