: The Telangana state government has announced a rise in dearness allowance (DA) for workers in the power industry. The decision was given the green light at a meeting led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday. As per this resolution, the DA for staff, craftsmen, and retirees of all power corporations under the Energy Department has been boosted by 1.621 percent.

This translates to an increase in the existing DA for employees from 17.651 percent to 19.272 percent. This adjustment will come into effect from January 1. However, this raise will result in an extra financial load of around ₹9.35 crore monthly on the state’s finances.

Calculation of DA

The DA for other state government employees has been lifted by 2.1 percent, from 50.7 percent to 52.8 percent. On the other hand, the DA for power employees has been increased by 1.621 percent. This pay rise is determined by your basic salary.

Salary Calculation for Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000

The actual salary hike will be based on the employee’s basic earnings, which will be computed by comparing the new and old DA percentages. The advantages of this raise will be retroactive to January 1st, and the back pay will be given according to the appropriate regulations. To grasp this, you can employ this simple equation:

(Basic Salary × New DA%) – (Basic Salary × Old DA%) = Increased Monthly Salary
In this scenario, if the basic salary is Rs 30,000, then at the rate of 19.272 percent, the worker’s DA will amount to Rs 486.30 monthly and Rs 5,835.60 annually. Similarly, with a basic salary of Rs 50,000, the employee will receive about Rs 810.50 monthly and Rs 9,726 yearly as DA.
