Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has decided to play in the Pakistan Super League instead of the IPL in 2026. The 38-year-old Ali declared his preference for the PSL after Faf du Plessis.
Moeen Ali posted on his social media handle, “I am excited to join the PSL in its new era. The league has earned the reputation of being the top-class T20 cricket, with high-level competition and world-class talent in each team.” The English all-rounder further wrote, “It’s always great to play in Pakistan. The quality of cricket played here and the passion of the fans inspires you to give your best. I’m focused on being a part of it and making some great memories. Looking forward to another special experience.”
Moeen Ali has been active in the IPL since 2018. During this period, he represented Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Moeen Ali played 73 matches in his IPL career, scoring 1167 runs and taking 41 wickets.

Moeen Ali played six matches for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2025 IPL. The franchise released him from the squad before the mini-auction. The former England all-rounder also has experience in the PSL, having played nine matches for the Multan Sultans.
The mini-auction for IPL 2026 will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16th. According to a Cricbuzz report, 1,355 players have registered to fill 77 spots. The 10 franchises will have a combined purse of INR 237.55 crore (approximately $2.37 billion) on this day.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will enter the tournament with the highest purse of INR 64.30 crore. Chennai Super Kings are second with a purse of INR 43.40 crore. 31 foreign players have secured spots out of 77.
