Finally, the RCB fans received the much awaited update about their home ground for the IPL 2026 season. There has been considerable speculation for some time about the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) home ground for IPL 2026. However, after a long wait, good news has arrived. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has received official approval from the Karnataka government to host international cricket and Indian Premier League matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB all set to play at their iconic home ground in IPL 2026

This decision marks a major step towards lifting the ban imposed on the stadium following last year’s tragic incident. The KSCA issued a press note stating, “This permission is subject to compliance with the terms and conditions set by the government and the relevant authorities. The KSCA is confident of meeting all the stipulated conditions. The association has already submitted a detailed compliance roadmap to the Expert Review Committee and is fully committed to implementing all safety, security and crowd management measures.”

It’s worth noting that the RCB team won the IPL 2025 title. It was their first time winning the league’s trophy. On June 4, 2025, during the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s first IPL trophy celebration, a massive crowd gathered outside the stadium. Millions of fans had gathered to celebrate the players and the trophy, but a management lapse led to a stampede. Eleven people died and dozens were injured. Following this incident, the stadium was closed for all major matches.

Due to this incident, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has not been eligible to host matches for the T20 World Cup 2026. The schedule has already been finalized. Therefore, fans may have to wait for the return of international cricket here. However, it may reopen for the IPL for RCB’s title defense, which is great news for RCB fans.
