Team India has suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa in the second Test of the series in Guwahati. In this Test, Team India lost by 408 runs, which is the biggest margin of defeat in its Test history. What was even more shameful was that South Africa won the Test series in India after 25 years and clean swept India 2-0. Both these shameful records were made under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, who was leading Team India for the first time in the Guwahati Test.

The harsh reality made Rishabh Pant cry

Due to such a shameful record being registered in his first captaincy, Pant also appeared very emotional after the defeat in the match. Many of his photos on the field have gone viral, in which Pant is seen wiping tears from his eyes. Until the start of this Test match, Rishabh Pant considered Guwahati a lucky and very special ground for him. In 2018, Pant had made his ODI debut for Team India at this very ground. Now, on this very ground, he had the opportunity to captain Team India for the first time in this Test match.

Pant had expressed this happiness during the toss on the first day of the match, when he said that the Guwahati ground would always hold a special place in his heart. Now, after the result, this feeling must have deepened, as Pant never imagined such a humiliating debut as his captain. Pant appeared disappointed by this. He was even seen shedding tears in his eyes, photos of which went viral. The biggest disappointment for Pant was that he had returned to Team India after several months through this series.

Until he suffered a leg fracture during the Test series in England, he was the most successful batsman for Team India after captain Shubman Gill. Pant was expected to show similar success with the bat against South Africa, but he could only manage scores of 2(13), 27(24), 7(8) and 13(16) in four innings. His score in the series was 49 runs in four innings at an average of 12.25. Pant’s poor batting performance is also considered a major reason for Team India’s failure.
