Aadhaar Update Rules: UIDAI has put out a fresh list of documents to make the Aadhaar update and new enrollment process easier. In the past, people struggled a lot with getting or updating their Aadhaar. But now, these new rules are set to cut down on that hassle significantly. The updated list from UIDAI specifies the valid documents for PoI (Proof of Identity), PoA (Proof of Address), DoB (Proof of Date of Birth), and PoR (Proof of Relationship).
Change of name in Aadhaar
UIDAI officially recognizes several documents for name updates. The most trusted document is a passport, as it includes a photo, name, date of birth, and address.
A PAN card is also accepted for name verification since it clearly shows the name. A Voter ID (EPIC card) has both a name and a photo, making it valid for a name change as well.
Moreover, a Driving License, Government ID, and Marriage Certificate are also accepted.
Change of address in Aadhaar
The list of documents needed to update your address in Aadhaar is quite extensive. A passport, bank passbook, or bank statement can be used, as long as the passbook is current. Bills for electricity, water, and gas are also valid, but they shouldn’t be older than three months.
For tenants, the key documents needed are a rent agreement along with police verification or notarization. Additionally, an updated voter ID card (EPIC), ration card, and house tax or property tax receipts are also valid for address updates.
Updating Date of Birth (DOB) in Aadhaar
To update your date of birth, valid documents include a birth certificate, passport, and mark sheets from 10th-12th grade. A PAN card is valid too, but only the physical version; E-PAN won’t work. A government ID card is also acceptable if it clearly states the date of birth.
Updating Aadhaar is now easier
With the new UIDAI rules, if someone has just one document that shows a photo, name, and address, it will count as both a PoI and a PoA. Before, you needed two separate documents, but now one will do.
