Every time Vaibhav Suryavanshi takes the field, he inevitably breaks some record. Now, in his very first match as captain, he has set another world record. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest captain to win an ODI match. He achieved this feat after leading his team to victory in the first ODI against South Africa Under-19 in Benoni.
First match as captain and Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a massive record
With India’s victory in Benoni, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the first captain to win a Youth ODI at the age of 14. He broke the record held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad, who won his first match as captain at the age of 15 years and 141 days. Batting first, India scored 300 runs in 50 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi managed only 11 runs, but Harvansh Pangalia’s 93 and Ambris’ 65 helped India post a strong total.

In reply, South Africa could only manage 148 runs in 27.4 overs. The match was decided by the Duckworth-Lewis method, and India won by 25 runs. Rain and heavy lightning in Benoni forced the match to be halted. Players were evacuated to a safe location. The match was subsequently halted, and India ultimately won. The next match will be held on January 5th.
In his first innings as captain, Vaibhav was dismissed within 12 balls, scoring just 11 runs, including two fours. He was the second batsman to be dismissed on the first ball of the seventh over of the Indian innings. He had previously lost opener Aaron George’s wicket on the first ball of the second over.

In the first match of the series, played in Benoni, South Africa, not only Vaibhav, but Team India’s top order completely failed. After George and Vaibhav, wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu and Vedant Trivedi briefly steadied the innings and put together a 33-run partnership. However, Kundu was run out in the 14th over, breaking the partnership. The impact was visible, and Vedant Trivedi also returned to the pavilion in the very next over.
