Watson has also worked with Delhi Capitals
Queensland’s Shane Watson, who has played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 Internationals, previously served in the same role with the Delhi Capitals (DC) under Ricky Ponting. After a three-year hiatus, he is returning to the IPL coaching role, providing KKR with the potential to benefit greatly from his extensive experience and strategic understanding.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, “We are excited to welcome Shane Watson to the KKR family. His high-level experience as a player and coach will add immense value to our team culture and preparation. His understanding of the T20 format is world-class, and we look forward to his contributions both on and off the field.”

The appointment is a significant move for KKR, who finished eighth in the 2025 IPL season. Watson will now work closely with head coach Abhishek Nayar, while Dwayne Bravo will remain as the team’s mentor.

The 44-year-old Watson has played in the IPL for 12 years, representing Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He led Rajasthan Royals to a resounding victory in the inaugural IPL series in 2008. He won the MVP award that season and returned to the championship with CSK in 2013.
