The state transport department is taking an important step. To stop brokers and reduce the trouble for people at RTO offices, 50 key services will now be completely online or “Faceless.” This means people will no longer need to visit the RTO office for work like getting a learner’s license or renewing a permit. All processes can now be done from home.
According to sources, this decision was made in a meeting on October 14 between the National Informatics Center (NIC) and senior officials of the transport department. The main aim of this online service is to remove brokers, reduce travel for people, and bring transparency to vehicle-related services.
Services Available Online
Under the ‘Faceless Service’ initiative, the following services will be available online:
- Learner’s License and Driving License Application
- Change of Address in Learner’s/Driving License
- Vehicle Registration
- Issuance and Renewal of Permits
- Application for Various Permits
- Application and Renewal of Conductor’s License
- State Transport Secretary Soumitra Mohan said, “With Aadhaar-based faceless authentication, citizens can now complete most motor vehicle services online. This will save them from visiting the RTO office repeatedly.”
How the New System Works
People often complain that even for small work, they must visit the RTO office many times and need help from middlemen or brokers. The new faceless system will solve this problem.
Applicants can now upload documents online through the Vahan and Sarathi portals. Payments will also be done digitally, and approvals will be given online. The entire process uses Aadhaar-based authentication, making it safe and transparent.
However, there is a warning: if the Aadhaar details do not match the license or vehicle details, the application may be rejected. For some important tasks like biometric changes or correcting name/date of birth, the applicant may still need to visit the RTO office.
The transport department has asked the NIC to upgrade the Vahan and Sarathi portals quickly to add these services. They must submit a report within three days
