The days of waiting a long time to get a driving license are ending. The West Bengal Transport Department will now deliver driving licenses in just 4 hours. The Minister in-charge, Snehashish Chakraborty, announced this on Tuesday.

The State Transport Department has started new rules in the state transport system. The Minister came to a government function in Santragachi, Howrah on Tuesday and explained the new rules.

The minister said that under the new rules, anyone can apply for a license online. The department will call the applicant for the test according to the list. After the test, the driving license will be delivered within 4 hours.

He also said that the applicant will get a message on their mobile as soon as the application is submitted. The person must show this message until they receive the driving license.

New Vehicle Rules and Scrap Policy

The state government has instructed all RTOs to scrap vehicles older than 15 years. The old vehicles will be sent to scrap yards, which will be set up in each district. If a commercial vehicle is sent to a scrap yard, the owner will get a valid document. Using this document, the owner can buy a new vehicle and get a specific route permit.

If someone wants a preferred vehicle number, they can apply before buying the vehicle. The special number will go to the applicant who offers the highest price. For general numbers, applicants can choose from available numbers, the Transport Minister, Snehashish Chakraborty, said.

The minister also said the government is focusing on e-transport for the future. Only those with valid government permission can manufacture Toto vehicles. However, there are currently no plans to register or license Toto vehicles.
