Duplicate Driving License: If your driving license is lost, stolen, or damaged, there’s no need to worry. The process of obtaining a duplicate driving license in India has now been made quite simple. You can easily apply for it both online and offline. It’s important to note that driving a vehicle without a valid driving license is a legal offense in India. If caught in such a situation, you may face a fine or other legal action.

Therefore, if your license is torn, illegible, lost, or stolen, it becomes necessary to obtain a duplicate driving license. The validity of a duplicate license is exactly the same as the original license. If the license’s validity has expired during the application process, it must be renewed first. In cases of theft or loss, filing an FIR (First Information Report) is considered mandatory. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory to possess a valid license.

Documents Required for a Driving License

For a duplicate license, you need to fill out Form LLD. Along with this, you need to provide proof of identity, such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport, and proof of address, such as an electricity bill, voter ID, or rent agreement. A passport-size photograph is also required. If the license was stolen, a copy of the FIR is mandatory. If the license is damaged or torn, the original card must also be submitted.

Obtain a Duplicate License Offline

For an offline application, you will need to visit the RTO (Regional Transport Office) from where your original license was issued, or you can also apply at the nearest RTO to your current address. You can obtain Form LLD from there or download it from the Parivahan Seva portal. The form must be filled out correctly with the license number and personal information.

After this, all the necessary documents must be self-attested and submitted. The fee for a duplicate license varies from state to state, but it is usually between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500. After verifying the documents, the RTO approves the application and issues a duplicate license, which you can collect from the RTO or have delivered to your address.
