The state transport department is going to take a groundbreaking step. To reduce the violence of brokers and harassment of the common people in the RTO office, it has been decided to make 50 important services completely online or ‘Faceless’. As a result, there will be no need to rush to the RTO office again and again for work like learner’s license to permit renewal. All the processes can be completed digitally from home.

According to Navanna sources, this important decision was taken in a meeting between the National Informatics Center (NIC) and the high-ranking officials of the transport department on October 14. The main aim of launching this online service is to make the RTO office broker-free, reduce the travel of people and bring transparency in various vehicle-related services.

Which services will be available online?

A total of 50 services have been included under the ‘Faceless Services’ initiative. Some of the important services are:

  • Learner’s License and Driving License Application
  • Change of Address in Learner’s Driving License
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Issuance and Renewal of Permits
  • Application for various types of permits
  • Application and Renewal of Conductor’s License

“With the introduction of Aadhaar-based faceless authentication system, citizens will now be able to complete most of the motor vehicle related services online. This will save them from having to visit the RTO office repeatedly,” said State Transport Secretary Soumitra Mohan in a release.

How will this new system work?

It has long been a common complaint of the common man that even for a small task, he has to visit the RTO office multiple days and it is almost impossible to complete the work without the help of middlemen or brokers. This new ‘faceless’ system is going to solve that problem.

Applicants will now be able to upload the required documents online through the Vahan and Sarathi portals. After that, the payment can be made digitally and the approval will also be received online. The entire process will be through Aadhaar-based authentication, which will make the service more secure and transparent.

However, in some cases, warnings have also been issued. If any discrepancy is found in the applicant’s Aadhaar card details with the license or vehicle registration details, the application may be rejected. Also, the applicant may have to visit the RTO office for some important tasks like biometric changes or correction of name/date of birth. The transport department has already directed NIC to upgrade the Vahan and Sarathi portals expeditiously to include these new services and has been asked to submit a report in this regard within three days.
