The latest season of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament (SMAT 2025) started yesterday with some brilliant bowling and batting performances from multiple players, which is considered very significant as the mini auction of IPL 2026 is approaching. An emerging Indian batsman scored a hundred with a record strike rate and left every cricket fans stunned. The young batter is a talent from Chennai Super Kings camp.

An encouraging moment for CSK ahead of IPL 2026

Urvil Patel has achieved another milestone. He scored the third-fastest century in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 27-year-old Patel is part of the Chennai Super Kings and was signed by CSK for ₹30 lakh. Urvil already holds the record for the fastest century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Now, on Wednesday, he added another milestone to his career by scoring the third-fastest century in the tournament’s history.

The Gujarat captain smashed 11 fours and 8 sixes in his 31-ball century against Services at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad. He scored 119 runs in just 37 balls, including 12 fours and 10 sixes. Services’ target of 183 proved to be a cakewalk for Gujarat, thanks to a 174-run opening partnership between Patel and Desai. Gujarat won the match by 8 wickets.

Urvil Patel scored a century off 28 balls against Tripura in Indore in 2024. That same year, Abhishek Sharma scored a century off 28 balls against Meghalaya in Rajkot. Urvil Patel recorded the third-fastest century, scoring a century off 31 balls against Services in Hyderabad in 2025.

Although the youngster played just three matches after coming in as a replacement for Vansh Bedi in IPL 2025, Patel proved that he was exactly the middle-order batsman CSK were looking for, and could even be a potential successor to Dhoni in the future.
