The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have more or less crashed their way into another IPL final, make that a second one in a row after a ridiculous 92-run beat down of the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. Even though the whole thing was hyped like it would be a showdown between individual superstars… turns out it was RCB’s fearless captain Rajat Patidar who basically grabbed the moment by the collar in Dharamshala.
Patidar played one of those captain’s innings that doesn’t really make sense, shattering a bunch of tournament records and showing off a real masterclass in aggressive, modern T20 batting, or something very close to that.
The Brutal Record-Breaking Assault
Coming in with full clarity, Patidar let loose an actual cyclone on the Gujarat bowling attack. He stayed unbeaten on 93, from only 33 balls, and his strike rate sat at a jaw-dropping 281.81. It wasn’t just quick runs, either—his knock was powered by 9 huge sixes and 5 clean boundaries.
And while he was in that zone, Patidar also went at GT’s surprise bowling inclusion, Kulwant Khejroliya. He absolutely took him apart for 28 runs in a single over, no hesitation. That sort of domination helped push RCB to 254/4, which is also the highest team score ever logged in IPL playoffs history.
Capitalizing on Gujarat’s Costly Blunders
Now, while Patidar’s batting was pure class, Gujarat still handed him a couple of golden openings, the kind that usually get punished and he did just that.
RCB’s skipper was dropped two times in a row, pretty early on. First, Kulwant Khejroliya spilled a catch, and then just two balls later GT’s pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada let another one slip. Patidar then turned the aggression dial straight up after both reprieves, and it was like the Titans’ bowling plans simply lost the plot, deflating the unit fast.

The Fearless Captaincy
After that record-breaking rout, Patidar talked openly about the ultra-aggressive mindset that has kinda reshaped RCB into a real powerhouse. Even with the big-time pressure of a Qualifier 1, the skipper said he keeps playing with full-on freedom, like, no constraints.
“I am not worried about losing my wicket,” Patidar stated, pretty confidently after locking the final spot. “Our strength is our attacking intent, and we want to continue playing with that very same mindset without any fear.”
That level-headed and unshakable approach has gone on to spill into the whole squad. After Patidar delivered those batting fireworks, RCB’s bowlers dismissed Gujarat for 162, even though Rahul Tewatia put up a stubborn 68, basically a lone battle. With their captain pushing ahead from the front, backed by records and a fearless attitude, RCB now looks like the outfit to beat going into the grand finale.
