The first Test of the India vs. South Africa series is being played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The second and final match of the Test series will be played at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati from November 22nd, where a rule change has been made. Where players used to get lunch at 11:30 am, they will now get it about two hours later. Let’s explain the situation.
As you know, Test cricket is played over five days. Each day consists of three sessions. Typically, a session lasts 25-30 overs. There is a 40-minute lunch break after the first session. There is a 20-minute tea break after the second session, but this will not be the case in Guwahati.
This rule changed in the second test between India and South Africa
Why are we saying that players will have a two-hour delay in lunch? Actually, the Test in Guwahati will have a tea break before lunch. While Tests in India typically start at 9:30 am, the second Test will begin at 9 am.
There will be a tea break at 11 am, which is essentially a lunch break. While there is a tea break after the second session, there will be a lunch break in Guwahati. The lunch break will be from 1:20 pm to 2 pm, followed by the third session, which will continue until 4 pm.
Why did the Guwahati test timetable change?
India has a single time zone, but in Guwahati, located in the northeastern part of the country, the sun rises and sets earlier. Currently, the sun rises at 5:30 am and sets at 4:30 pm. This is why the timing of the India vs. South Africa second Test has been changed. The match will now start at 9 am, with the toss taking place half an hour earlier at 8:30 am.
This will be the 30th stadium to host a Test match.
Barsapara (ACA) will be the 30th stadium in India to host a Test match. No Test match has ever been played there before. The ground hosted its first international match in 2017.
