After the Indian Premier League 2025, the Indian team will tour England. During this tour, both teams will play a 5-match Test series. This series will also mark the start of a new World Test Championship cycle for India.
Before the series begins, there is already a lot of discussion about Rohit Sharma’s form and the selection of the Indian team. Fans are eager to know whether the selectors will trust Rohit Sharma once again. His bat stayed mostly quiet during the 2024-25 season, and his future in Test cricket has become a topic of debate.
However, it seems that Rohit is fully prepared for the England tour, which starts on June 20. In a conversation with former Australia captain Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast, Rohit said he expects a strong performance from the team in this much-awaited Test series.
Rohit Wants Bumrah and Shami Fully Fit for England Tour
Rohit Sharma highlighted the importance of having a fully fit Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and a strong pace attack for India’s success. He said he hopes all key fast bowlers will finish the IPL 2025 season without injury.
Rohit said, “India has a great chance to beat England in England. Last time, the series ended 2-2 with these same players. We need Bumrah and Shami to be 100% fit.”
Rohit also pointed out the challenge of staying fit during IPL. “We just have to make sure they perform well in the IPL. This is the most challenging part. I know IPL matches are only four overs for bowlers, but the travel is tough — you play today, travel tomorrow, and play again. I hope both these players, along with the others, come out of the IPL without any problems. If we have a fit team going to England, we will have a great series. It will be a tough but exciting challenge for us.”
Rohit’s Poor Form in the 2024-25 Season
Rohit Sharma struggled with his form during the 2024-25 season. He scored only 164 runs in 15 innings. India also lost a home Test series 0-3 against New Zealand and faced a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Champions Trophy Victory but IPL Struggles
In March, Rohit Sharma led India to win the Champions Trophy. But his poor form has continued in IPL 2025. So far, Rohit has scored only 45 runs in five matches for Mumbai Indians. Fans are hoping for his return to form soon.
Rohit Considered Red-Ball Break Before England Tour
According to an India Today report, Rohit had thought about taking a break from red-ball cricket before the England series. But after India’s Champions Trophy win, he reportedly spoke to BCCI officials and expressed his wish to play in the upcoming England Test series.
