But before those recommendations come out, they’re set to get two boosts in their dearness allowance (DA). The Eighth Pay Commission has a timeframe of 18 months to present its suggestions to the government, which is expected to wrap up in the first half of 2027. What’s the expected increase for the July half-year?

According to the latest inflation stats, central employees are likely to see a 3 percent rise in their DA for the July-December 2026 period. The All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW), published by the Labour Bureau, showed the index at 149.1 in March 2026, climbing to 149.9 in April 2026. During that same time, the retail inflation rate for industrial workers went up from 4.27 percent to 4.46 percent. With these numbers, the DA calculation comes to about 62.51 percent, which can be rounded up to 63 percent according to the guidelines.

It’s important to mention that the current DA for central government employees and pensioners stands at 60 percent. If the DA rises to 63 percent starting in July, it will lead to a notable increase in employees’ salaries. However, the final call will only be made after examining the AICPI-IW data for May and June 2026 and getting the Union Cabinet’s approval.

Millions of central government employees and pensioners are awaiting the recommendations of the , but before that, some relief news regarding dearness allowance (DA) may emerge. The DA increase for the July half-year is expected to be announced in September or October. The DA increase for the January to June half-year 2027 could be announced by March or April 2027.
