Shaheen Afridi suffered a right knee injury while playing for Brisbane Heat in Australia. With the T20 World Cup around the corner, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) immediately initiated his rehabilitation process. Shaheen Afridi stated during the Lahore Qalandars’ talent hunt that his rehabilitation is progressing well.

Current update on Shaheen Afridi

He stated that his rehabilitation is ongoing and the PCB medical team is monitoring it. He is currently working on gym workouts and batting. He will resume bowling next week. He also clarified that the current injury is not as serious as the previous one. He said that this time the injury is not as serious. There is only slight swelling in the bone. The MRI report is not too worrying. It will probably take a week, not a month.

The knee Shaheen is referring to is the same one he suffered a serious posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury in during a Test match against Sri Lanka in 2022. This injury kept him out of cricket for nearly six months and also prevented him from playing in the opening matches of that year’s T20 World Cup. However, he returned in the final stages of the tournament, but was injured again in the final and was unable to bowl in the death overs. England won the title in that match, defeating Pakistan.

Shaheen Afridi’s performance in the BBL wasn’t particularly impressive. He conceded runs at an economy rate of 11.19 in four matches and took only two wickets. However, his performance at the international level has been better. Last year, he was Pakistan’s third-highest wicket-taker in the T20 format, behind only Mohammad Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed.

The Pakistan team is currently playing a white-ball series in Sri Lanka, which is considered important preparation for the World Cup. Pakistan will play all of its matches in the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. ODI captain Shaheen said that they have played very good cricket over the past year.
