NEET-UG 2026: Significant news has emerged for students appearing for the NEET-UG examination. Amidst the ongoing controversy, the Supreme Court has stated that the NEET-UG re-test scheduled for this year will be conducted exclusively in the traditional ‘pen-and-paper mode’ (using OMR sheets).
The Supreme Court dismissed a petition that had sought to conduct the examination as a Computer-Based Test (CBT). In an affidavit submitted to the Court, the National Testing Agency (NTA) clarified that it is preparing to transition the NEET examination to a computer-based model starting next year.
Prominent Figures Filed the Petition
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court to ensure the complete security of this year’s examination. The petitioners argued that a CBT framework should be implemented immediately to end incidents such as paper leaks. The Supreme Court continues to maintain constant oversight regarding the NEET paper leak controversy.

Following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy, an announcement was made to conduct a re-examination on June 21, 2026. Very few days now remain until the exam. Meanwhile, the examination originally scheduled for May 3 was cancelled due to a paper leak, and the CBI is currently investigating the matter.
The NTA is expected to issue admit cards for the re-examination by June 14. Candidates appearing for the exam are advised not to forget to carry their admit cards to the examination centre, as they will not be permitted to sit for the exam without one. Following the examination, the provisional answer key is expected to be released by June 24, 2026.

Why Was the Petition Filed?
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court by Dr Dhruv Chauhan, RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, political leader Harisharan Devgan, and social activist Anubhav Garg to ensure that the NEET-UG examination—scheduled for June 21—is conducted in a completely secure and leak-proof manner.
