Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has refused to send its team to the T20 World Cup 2026 in India, citing concerns about the safety of its players. This decision comes amid deteriorating political relations between India and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Cricket Board informed ICC about their decision

BCB has also written a letter to ICC regarding this development. Bangladesh Cricket Board gave this information by issuing a statement. The statement said that an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was held this afternoon, in which the recent developments related to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is going to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, were discussed.

The Board, keeping in mind the developments of the last 24 hours, reviewed the situation in detail and expressed deep concern over the entire circumstances related to the participation of the Bangladesh National Team in the matches to be held in India.

The board further stated in the statement that after a thorough assessment of the current situation and considering the growing concerns regarding the safety of the Bangladesh contingent in India and the advice of the Bangladesh government, the Board of Directors has decided that the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current circumstances. In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the event authority, to consider relocating all Bangladesh matches to a location outside India.

The Board believes that such action is necessary to protect the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi players, team officials, Board members and other stakeholders and to ensure that the team can participate in the tournament in a safe and fair environment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board hopes that the ICC will understand the situation and respond to this matter as soon as possible.

Recently, on the instructions of the BCCI, IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman.
