New Delhi: Amidst the violence in Bangladesh, preparations for the general elections are also progressing rapidly, with the nomination process in full swing. Amidst the continuous incidents of violence against minorities, a case has emerged of a prominent Hindu candidate’s nomination being cancelled. Media reports also claim that the Hindu candidate’s nomination was forcibly rejected.
The exclusion of the Hindu candidate from the electoral race has now become a subject of discussion. The Bangladesh Election Commission hascancelledd the nomination of Gobind Chandra Pramanik, General Secretary of the Jatiya Hindu Mahajot and a senior lawyer.

Where was the nomination filed?
Gobind Chandra Pramanik had filed his nomination papers on December 28 as an independent candidate from the Gopalganj-3 parliamentary constituency for the upcoming general elections. Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also contested from this seat, which is considered her traditional stronghold. Pramanik was also seen as a strong candidate representing the Hindu community in the general elections scheduled for February 12.
Reason for nomination cancellation
According to the Bangladesh Election Commission, every candidate is required to submit signatures of per centnt of the total voters in their constituency along with their nomination papers. Pramanik claims that he submitted all the required signatures on time, but at the last moment, the returning officer declared these signatures invalid.
