What ingredients are needed to make Bengali Macher Jhol?
Rohu fish – 4 pieces
Chopped potatoes – 2
Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Onion – 1
Red chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Ginger paste – 1 teaspoon
Tomato puree – 1/2 cup

Water – 1 1/2 cups
Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
Panch Phoran (five-spice mix) – 1 teaspoon
Garam masala powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Eggplant – 1
Mustard oil – 4 tablespoons
Salt – to taste

How is Bengali Macher Jhol made?
Step 1- First, you need to marinate the fish in turmeric and salt.
Step 2 – Next, heat some oil in a pan and then fry the marinated fish. Then, fry the potatoes and eggplant separately and set them aside.

Step 3 – Now you need to sauté the panch phoron, spices, and onions in oil. Then add the tomato puree and ginger paste to it.
Step 4- Then, mix the potatoes and eggplant with cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and a little water.

Step 5- Now, you will see that the oil is separating from all the ingredients. At this point, add the salt and let it cook for 2 minutes. Then add the fried fish and cook for about 5 minutes. After that, add water and let the gravy simmer over low heat.
Step 6- Now, once everything is cooked, turn off the heat and then add garam masala powder, green chillies, and fresh coriander leaves for garnish, and your Bengali Macher Jhol is ready.
