Heavy Rainfall Alert Until April 20

According to the Meteorological Department, the upcoming 72 hours could prove to be significant for the Himalayan and northeastern states. The IMD forecasts a possibility of heavy rainfall and lightning strikes at isolated places across Arunachal Pradesh between April 18 and April 20. In light of the potential for storms and strong winds, the public has been urged to exercise caution.

The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya, valid until April 19. A warning for heavy rain has also been issued for Sikkim for April 18. Additionally, an alert for hailstorms has been issued for Mizoram for April 17—that is, today.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Here as Well

According to the IMD, the weather pattern in North India is expected to change due to the activation of a Western Disturbance. The hilly states of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh may witness spells of rain and snowfall between April 17 and April 19.

Winds in these regions could gust at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in these areas on April 17. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning on April 17.

The Heat Here Will Leave You Sweating

While rain is forecast for some parts of the country, severe heat is expected in many other regions. The IMD has indicated that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. In Odisha and Jharkhand, temperatures are expected to rise above normal levels, accompanied by intense heat, during the period from April 18 to 20. Meanwhile, humid heat could prove scorching for residents in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Konkan, and Coastal Karnataka.
