Galaxy S26 Edge: Samsung could turn its flagship family on its head once again in 2026. Following the release of the Galaxy S25 Edge, it has been reported that the technology giant may discontinue the Galaxy S26 Plus and introduce a more slender Galaxy S26 Edge instead. This potential change comes following underwhelming sales performance by the Plus model and shifting market trends toward ultra-slim smartphones.
Galaxy S26 Lineup Development Begins
Samsung’s upcoming flagship series, the Galaxy S26 series codenamed “NPA,” is already in the early phase of development, according to a South Korean report. The series so far has three models: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The standard Plus model is not included in the original plans. The reason seems obvious—S25 Plus sales have trailed behind, selling only 6.7 million units, while the regular S25 sold 13.6 million and the Ultra sold 17.4 million.
Edge to Dominate Plus Segment
The new Galaxy S26 Edge will probably continue with the same ultra-slim profile as the S25 Edge, attracting users who like slim and sleek designs. This shift could mirror Apple’s approach with its iPhone 17 lineup, which is also reportedly targeting thinner phones. While the S25 Edge’s thin design was accompanied by compromises such as a reduced 3,900mAh battery and absence of a telephoto lens, Samsung might resolve these issues with the next Edge model.
What S26 Edge Could Improve
There is speculation that the Galaxy S26 Edge could have improved battery technology, like silicon-carbon, to compensate for it being smaller. The company is said to be developing four OLED panels for the S26 series, leaving room for the S26 Plus to come back if the Edge doesn’t sell well. But if the Edge performs well, then the Plus is done.
Camera Specifications and Display Expectations
Whereas the S25 Edge features a 200MP primary camera and 12MP ultrawide sensor, it is missing a telephoto sensor. The S25 Plus does feature a 10MP 3x telephoto, albeit with an outdated 1/3.94″ sensor. Whether or not Samsung will equip the S26 Edge with a telephoto camera to boost its photography prowess is unsure. The upcoming Edge model might feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor.
