School Winter Vacation: The country is currently experiencing a severe cold wave. Dense fog and cold winds have made life very difficult for people. Several states in the country are currently undergoing intense cold, cold waves, and dense to very dense fog. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast India. Meanwhile, in view of the increasing cold, state governments have extended school holidays. In Uttar Pradesh, schools from nursery to class 8 will remain closed until January 15th. Schools for classes 9 to 12 will remain closed until January 8th. All schools affiliated with ICSE, CBSE, and UP Board in the state will remain closed. If any school fails to comply with this order, action will be taken against them for violating the rules.

Winter Vacation Continues in Punjab
In Punjab, winter vacation has been announced for schools until January 8th. Considering the increasing cold, the state’s Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, has decided to extend the holidays until January 8th.

 Schools Closed in Rajasthan?
Due to the cold wave in Rajasthan, schools will remain closed until January 5th. In Jaipur, the District Collector has announced holidays for Anganwadi centres from January 2nd to January 10th. In the Kashmir Valley, all pre-primary classes will be closed from November 26th to February 28th, 2026; all classes from 1st to 8th grade will be closed from December 1st to February 28th, 2026; and classes for grades 9 to 12 will start on December 11th and end on February 22nd, 2026.

School Holidays in UP
CM Yogi Adityanath had ordered all schools and colleges up to the intermediate level across the state to remain closed until January 5th. Orders have been issued to keep classes one through eight at schools closed until January 15th. Gorakhpur District Magistrate Deepak Meena has ordered that schools up to class 8 will remain closed on January 6th and 7th, 2026, due to severe cold and a cold wave in the district. Instructions regarding school closures have also been issued in Lucknow due to the cold weather.
