The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a completely new Aadhaar mobile app, replacing its old mAadhaar app. This app provides users with greater security and control over the use of their digital identity. The new app is available on both Android and iOS platforms and features a modern interface, improved security features, and advanced privacy controls.

Face Authentication Makes Digital Identity Easier

According to UIDAI, with this new app, users can now access and share their Aadhaar details directly from their smartphones. Most importantly, it features face authentication, allowing users to verify their identity at hotels, offices, or service centers without any physical documents. This will not only simplify the identification process but also ensure data security.

Manage 5 Aadhaar Profiles in One App

A key feature of this app is the addition of multi-profile management. Under this, Aadhaar profiles of up to five family members can be linked to a single mobile number. However, only one profile will be active at a time. This feature will prove extremely useful for families who want to manage multiple Aadhaar profiles on a single smartphone.

Biometric Lock Enhances Data Security

The new Aadhaar app also includes a biometric lock feature. This feature allows users to lock their fingerprint and iris data to prevent unauthorized access. This gives users complete control over their personal data and strengthens the security level even further.

QR Code Verification for Paperless Authentication

UIDAI has also introduced QR code verification in this app, making Aadhaar verification at banks, government offices, and service centers completely paperless. Additionally, users can selectively share their information—for example, displaying only their name and photo, while keeping their address or date of birth hidden.

Offline Access and Activity Log

The app also works offline. Once set up, users can view their Aadhaar information even without an internet connection. Additionally, an activity log feature has been added, which shows when and where a user’s Aadhaar data was used. This will increase transparency in data usage and make it easier to detect any suspicious activity.

How to Set Up the New Aadhaar App

To use the app, users will need to enter their Aadhaar number and verify it via mobile OTP and face authentication. A six-digit security PIN will then be required. Once setup is complete, users can easily view or share their identity, address, QR code, and downloaded Aadhaar.
