As per the Railways’ earlier announcement, train fares have been increased from today, Friday. This increased fare will have to be paid after a certain distance. However, the Railways Ministry has clarified that there is no increase in fares for local trains and monthly trains. In addition, the fare is not increasing in the case of second class up to 215 km.
In which cases is the fare increasing?
In the second class, for distances of more than 215 km in the general category, 1 paisa has been increased per kilometer. In the non-AC class of mail and express trains, the fare is increasing by 2 paisa per kilometer. In the AC category, 2 paisa per kilometer has also been increased. According to this calculation, passengers traveling 500 km in non-AC fare will have to pay only 10 rs extra.
Why has the fare been increased?
According to sources, the railway network has increased in the last 10 years. The number of trains has also increased. As a result, many more employees have had to be hired in the railways. In addition, expenses have increased for other reasons. According to the railways, the cost for employees has increased by about 1.15 lakh crore rupees. In addition, the pension cost has reached 6000 crore rupees annually. In such a situation, the railways are focused on increasing their income.
Railways anticipate this price increase will result in about a USD 700 Million rise in revenue for railways for this current fiscal year.
What are the projected fare increases for travel from Kolkata to other locations?
The distance between Kolkata and New Delhi is about 1450 km. With invoicing, the fare for travel on general class will increase by an estimated 14.5 rupees. On a mail or express train, the rate could be increasing by 29 rupees.
The distance between Kolkata and Mumbai is about 1960 km. Therefore, for general classes, we anticipate that fare will go up by approximately 19.6 rupees. However, for mail or express train service, the expected increase will be approximately 39.2 rupees.
