Phone is our constant companion. From waking up in the morning to going to bed at night, our eyes are always on the screen of this device. Many people even keep their phones in their ears while walking or crossing the road. Some even scroll through the phone while crossing the road. And that puts themselves in danger. The risk of falling into an accident increases. So, you have to be careful while crossing the road. Do not cross with your mobile in your ears or with your eyes on the screen.

In this context, let me tell you that you have to be more careful while crossing several crossings and roads in Kolkata city. Otherwise, the traffic police can fine you.

Why is a fine imposed?

In this regard, a surgeon of Kolkata Police said that crossing the road with a mobile phone is not a work habit. Due to this, major accidents can happen. That is why a fine is imposed.

He also informed that this fine is imposed under the Kolkata Police Act. It has nothing to do with the Motor Vehicle Act.

He also explained why this is done. The surgeon said that actually walking with a phone in your ear is not a violation of any law directly related to vehicles. Therefore, it does not fall under the Motor Vehicle Act. A fine is imposed under the Kolkata Police Act.

Fines are levied at specific places

This fine is not applied to all roads or crossings in the city. Rather, it is levied at some of the busiest crossings in the city. In this case, fines are levied at several places including KC Das’ crossing and Highland Park crossing.

Specific signs are given

The surgeon said that on all the roads in Kolkata where this fine is imposed, there are specific signs. This sign is called the ‘Jaywalking’ sign. And this fine is called a Jaywalking fine.

How much is the fine?

In response to this question, the traffic surgeon said that the fine can be between 10 rupees and 50 rupees.

So if you do not want to pay a fine, do not make the mistake of crossing with your phone in your ear from now on. Don’t even cross the crossing while looking at your smartphone. And if you don’t care about the fine, then follow this rule for your own good. Only then will you avoid danger.
