SBI: New and risky cyber fraud techniques are popping up in the country. The State Bank of India (SBI) has warned everyone to stay alert against deepfake scams. The bank points out that cybercriminals are now leveraging AI (Artificial Intelligence) to mimic people they usually trust, using videos, voices, and images to trick them into losing their money.

SBI mentioned in a post on the social media platform X that scammers might use fake AI video calls, audio messages, and pictures to impersonate bank officials, family members, senior officials, or friends, pressuring them for immediate cash. In these situations, emotional manipulation is often used to rush people into making hasty decisions.

How can you steer clear of deepfake fraud?

The bank has shared some key precautions for its customers:

Donโ€™t trust any messages or calls that ask for immediate money.

Always verify any requests through official channels.

Avoid sharing unknown links, QR codes, or account information.

Where should you report cyber fraud?

If you come across any form of cyber fraud or suspicious behavior, report it right away to the cybercrime helpline at 1930 or file a complaint through the official website. SBI emphasized that in this digital era, as technology evolves quickly, so do the methods of cybercrime. Hence, staying informed and vigilant is the best defense against deepfake scams.
