Under this scheme, pregnant and lactating mothers are provided with direct cash assistance of ₹5,000 directly into their bank accounts. Learn how to receive this ₹5,000 in three easy installments, and why this assistance is crucial for your health and your baby’s!
PMMVY’s Goal
To provide financial stability to millions of working women in the country, the Central Government is running the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). This scheme proves to be a huge relief for many families. For working women in cities and towns, pregnancy often requires leaving work, which directly impacts family income and increases financial stress.

In such a critical time, PMMVY serves as a strong source of support. Its primary goal is to ensure that women can comfortably complete their pregnancies and have full access to necessary medical care. This scheme partially compensates for income loss due to work interruptions. By receiving cash assistance, women can reduce pregnancy expenses and fully focus on their baby’s health and nutrition. This scheme benefits first-time pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
₹5,000 Mileage in Three Phases
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, financial assistance of a total of ₹5,000 is provided directly to the beneficiary’s bank account in three separate installments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This amount covers the entire process from childbirth to vaccination:
First Installment
At the beginning of pregnancy, when a woman successfully registers under the scheme, she receives the first installment of ₹1,000. This amount provides an immediate incentive for the woman to undergo initial health check-ups and register.
Second Installment
After a certain period of pregnancy, when the woman completes pre-delivery check-ups, she is given a second installment of ₹2,000. This ensures regular and necessary monitoring of the health of both mother and child.
Third Installment
After the child’s birth registration and initial vaccinations are completed, the final and third installment of ₹2,000 is given. This amount provides financial support for the care and nutrition of the mother and child after birth.
If the delivery takes place in a government hospital, the total financial benefit can reach approximately ₹6,000 or more, combined with the amount received under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), providing additional relief.

The application process for availing the PMMVY scheme has now been simplified and streamlined through digital means. Women can register directly by visiting the official website of the scheme.
