Platform Ticket: Major setback for rail travelers. To manage the heavy rush of passengers, the Northern Railway (NR) zone has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at four railway stations in the Delhi division. This is aimed at ensuring smooth passenger travel at busy stations.

Sale of platform tickets suspended

The ban on the sale of platform tickets will remain in effect till November 11, 2025. However, as per Railway Board guidelines, platform tickets will be issued to senior citizens, sick passengers, children and women passengers requiring assistance.

Sale of platform tickets stopped at these 4 railway stations

  1.  New Delhi Railway Station
  2. Delhi Railway Station
  3. Anand Vihar Terminal
  4. Anand Vihar Halt

Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said in a statement, “In view of the heavy rush, the sale of platform tickets at New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Anand Vihar Terminal and Anand Vihar Halt has been discontinued till November 11, 2025. However, persons coming to the station to assist elderly, differently-abled, illiterate and women passengers, etc., who are not able to take care of themselves, are exempted from these restrictions.”

The Northern Railway Zone has completed construction of a permanent holding area at New Delhi Railway Station and opened it for commercial use ahead of Diwali 2025. This permanent holding area has been built on the Ajmeri Gate side of the New Delhi Railway Station complex to ensure smooth management of the increased passenger traffic during the festive season. The center is designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers at any given time.
