PM Awas Yojana: Every person dreams of owning their own permanent home. To fulfil this dream, the central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0. This scheme aims to provide financial assistance to poor and middle-class families living in cities to buy, build, or rent a house. According to the government, this scheme will benefit approximately one crore urban families.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 was announced on August 15, 2023, on the occasion of Independence Day. This scheme is for those who do not already own a permanent house in any part of the country. The scheme includes economically weaker sections, low-income groups, and middle-income groups. Families with an annual income of up to Rs. 3 lakh fall under the EWS category. Those with an income of Rs. 3 to 6 lakh are in the LIG category, and those with an income of Rs. 6 to 9 lakh are in the MIG category.

Learn how much subsidy you will get under the scheme
This scheme will be implemented through four different components, the most important of which is the interest subsidy scheme. Under this, if an eligible person buys a house worth up to Rs. 35 lakh and takes a home loan of up to Rs. 25 lakh, they will receive an interest subsidy of 4% for 12 years on the first Rs. 8 lakh of the loan. This can provide a total financial assistance of up to approximately Rs. 1.80 lakh.

In addition, the government has increased the amount of the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for EWS and LIG categories from Rs. 1,000 crore to Rs. 3,000 crore. This will make it easier for banks and housing finance companies to provide affordable home loans and give more people the opportunity to buy a home.
