No PUC, No Fuel! New Rule from October 1

Rules: The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant move to tackle air pollution. Beginning October 1st, petrol and diesel will not be available for vehicles in the NCR that lack a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control Certificate). As reported by the news agency IANS, this decision was reached during a high-level meeting led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary SP Goyal on Wednesday. As a result, it is now crucial for every vehicle owner to secure a PUC on time and renew it regularly.

What is a ?

A PUC (Pollution Under Control Certificate) is an official document that verifies your vehicle’s emissions and pollution levels are within the standards set by the government. This certificate is issued after testing the vehicle’s pollution levels. It includes details such as the vehicle’s registration number, the pollution test report, and the validity of the certificate. According to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, all vehicles must possess a PUC.

In which districts will this rule apply?

Starting October 1st, petrol and diesel will not be provided to vehicles without a PUC certificate in eight districts of the NCR.

Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida)
Ghaziabad
Hapur
Bulandshahr
Meerut
Muzaffarnagar
Baghpat and
Shamli are included.
The government plans to install ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at petrol stations to identify vehicles lacking a valid PUC.

How to obtain a PUC?

First, head to an authorized pollution testing center near you. These centers are typically found at petrol stations.
Here, a technician will assess the pollution level by inserting a probe into the vehicle’s exhaust pipe.
They will check the levels of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and other gases.
If the vehicle complies with the required standards, the PUC Certificate will be issued right away.
The best part is that the PUC test generally takes only 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

What things will be needed?

To obtain a PUC, you typically only need the vehicle’s registration number and the previous PUC (in case of renewal). No additional documents are required.

How much will it cost?

Generally, it costs Rs 50 to Rs 70 to get a PUC certificate for a two-wheeler (petrol) vehicle.
70 to 100 rupees for three-wheelers
90 to 120 rupees more for petrol cars
It costs Rs 100 to 150 for a diesel/CNG/LPG car.

The first PUC issued for a new vehicle is usually valid for one year. After that, the PUC needs to be renewed every six months.
