New Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Good news for railway passengers. Indian Railways has made another significant advancement in enhancing rail travel across the nation to a world-class standard. Following the impressive success of the inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper train operating between Howrah and Kamakhya, the Railway Ministry has now approved this cutting-edge train service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Bengaluru-Mumbai route receives approval

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has confirmed in a letter to Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan that a new Vande Bharat sleeper train will be launched between Bengaluru (KSR Station) and Mumbai (CSMT). This initiative is seen as a substantial advantage for IT professionals, business travelers, and tourists journeying between these two major cities.

PC Mohan shared this exciting news on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that the introduction of this train will enhance the connectivity between the two most bustling cities in South and West India.

Mumbai to Bangalore in just 12 hours

At present, regular superfast trains take between 18 to 22 hours to traverse the roughly 1,000-kilometer distance from Bengaluru to Mumbai. However, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train can accomplish this trip in only 10 to 12 hours. This results in a remarkable time reduction of 6 to 8 hours for travelers, making overnight trips significantly more pleasant.

Premium amenities similar to Howrah-Kamakhya

The first Vande Bharat sleeper train has been operating successfully between Howrah and Kamakhya (Assam) since January 17, 2026. Passengers on the Bengaluru-Mumbai route can expect the same high-quality experience. Only those with confirmed tickets will be permitted to board this train; RAC (Racial Accreditation System) will not be available. The train’s interiors boast ergonomic designs, enhanced cushioning, sensor-activated lighting, and advanced toilets. The Railways plans to roll out these sleeper trains on other busy routes such as Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah in the future.
