Recently, some important helmet-related announcements and regulations have been made, aimed at improving the safety of both riders and pillion riders. Riding without a helmet can now be costly, resulting in not only a fine but also other strict measures being implemented in many states.

Know about the new traffic rules

This new headline is specifically aimed at bike riders, conveying the message of strict adherence to road safety rules. The new rules include some additional improvements and stricter provisions aimed at reducing road accidents and protecting the public. These rules, which will take effect in 2025, make it mandatory to wear an ISI-certified helmet. Under this new rule, helmets must conform to the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Only helmets bearing the ISI mark and meeting safety standards such as impact intensity, foam thickness, etc. will be considered valid. The government has also launched “No Helmet, No Fuel” campaigns to strictly enforce this safety rule, such as in Uttar Pradesh, where fuel will not be available at petrol pumps without a helmet.

How to follow helmet rules?

Always wear an ISI standard helmet.

When buying a new bike, make sure to get two helmets.

Wear your helmet properly, securely, and have regular checks.

Cooperate with government regulations and awareness campaigns.

What will be the effect of driving without a helmet?

The challan amount can be up to ₹1,000, which may vary from state to state.

Apart from challan, driving license may also be suspended for up to 3 months.

No fuel will be available at petrol pumps without helmet (applicable in some states).

The insurance claim process of a person not wearing a helmet in a road accident may be affected.
