Bihar’s Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar, also known as Bulo Mandal, stated that landlords can only charge tenants according to the government-set rates for electricity. If complaints of overcharging or irregularities are received, action can be taken. He added that the government’s priority is to ensure that all consumers receive the benefits of electricity subsidies and other schemes. In this regard, instructions have been issued to ensure that those living in rented houses also receive the benefits of the schemes.

How to avail the benefits of electricity subsidy scheme?

The consumer whose name the electricity connection is in will only receive the subsidy. Therefore, it’s best to have your own separate meter. Documents- Application can be made with agreement or rental agreement and Aadhar card.

 

Subsidy amount- Up to 125 units of free electricity can be availed in some areas of Bihar.

 

Role of Landlord- Landlords will no longer be able to charge higher fees for subsidized electricity.

You can apply for a meter in your name by visiting your nearest electricity office (DISCOM) or through the online portal by showing the rent agreement.
