PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Free Electricity for Poor Families

The Central Government started the Pradhan Mantri Soura Ghar Yojana to remove electricity bills for poor families. Beside this the scheme also protects the environment by using clean energy. The government will install 1-kilowatt solar panels for each eligible household. These panels will generate electricity for daily use. The government has allocated ₹650 crore for this scheme and will cover about five lakh families. Families can apply at their local government office or visit the official website.

The government will give solar panels to families who meet these rules: BPL families — about 1.5 lakh households, EWS families — about 3.4 lakh households, and families who use less than 100 units of electricity per month. SC and ST families will get extra help. This scheme helps the poorest families first.

The government will install the solar panels on the roof of each home. Families will not pay electricity bills and can sell extra electricity to the grid to earn money. The scheme helps families become self-reliant and financially independent. The Central Government will give a subsidy of ₹30,000 and the State Government will add ₹17,500. SC and ST families will get a special ₹15,000 subsidy. Most of the cost is paid by the government, so families need to spend only a small amount to get free electricity for 25 years.
