There’s a significant relief for drivers traveling to and from toll plazas. Now, if a vehicle doesn’t have a Fastag or it’s unable to be scanned due to a technical issue, drivers will no longer be forced to pay double the toll fee. The Central Government implemented a new online toll payment facility from November 16th, allowing drivers to complete their payments by paying only 25 percent more than the prescribed toll fee. This decision has brought significant relief to highway users and increases the likelihood of reducing congestion at toll plazas.

With the introduction of online payment, drivers can now make instant payments using UPI methods like Google Pay, PhonePe, and other digital wallets. Previously, when Fastags weren’t scanned, vehicle owners would have to pay double the prescribed toll amount if they made a cash payment toll by each toll plaza. This system had long been a source of inconvenience for drivers, but the new rules have significantly improved it.
Lachhiwala Toll Plaza Manager Ishwar Pandey stated that this facility was implemented from 12:00 AM on November 15th, following instructions from the Ministry of Highways. From then on, drivers who pay cash can avoid the additional fee by paying online as an alternative. This move reflects the central government’s policy of promoting digital payments on highways and ensuring uninterrupted vehicular movement.
According to the new rates, drivers with Fastags will be able to continue traveling at their previous fare, while those paying online will only have to pay a 25% additional fee. The Fastag fee for cars, jeeps, and light motor vehicles is ₹105, while online payment will increase to ₹131.25. Similarly, new rates have been established for other categories of light commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, three-axle vehicles, HCMs, EMEs, MAVs, and large vehicles. Cash payments will still attract double the fee, so drivers are being encouraged to adopt digital payments.
