RBI: The Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are working together to create a single portal that will assist citizens in finding and claiming their unclaimed financial assets. This portal will consolidate unclaimed assets from various financial categories, including bank deposits, pension funds, shares, dividends, and insurance premiums. The goal of this initiative is to simplify, clarify, and streamline the process of locating and claiming these assets.
Status of unclaimed properties
Right now, regulators like RBI, SEBI, and IRDAI offer services to help trace unclaimed assets through different platforms, such as RBI’s UDGAM, SEBI’s MITRA, and IRDAI’s Insurance Bharosa portal. However, citizens still struggle with claiming these assets due to the complicated and disjointed process. To address this issue, the government kicked off a large awareness campaign called ‘Your Capital, Your Rights’ in October 2025, which focuses on financial inclusion and education, and will run until December. So far, over Rs 1,887 crore worth of assets have been returned to their rightful holders and nominees during this campaign.
Features of the portal
This unified portal will serve as a one-stop solution for properties across all regulators, removing the hassle of searching through multiple sources. With integrated digital tools and on-the-spot assistance camps, the portal will help citizens locate their unclaimed funds, update their documents, and complete the claim process. Department Secretary M. Nagaraju mentioned that the portal is set to launch soon, which will boost transparency and speed up settlements. This initiative is poised to help millions of Indians reclaim their dormant wealth, giving them a financial boost. It’s seen as a major step forward for financial inclusion and the Digital India movement.
